Netflix is reportedly no longer moving forward with David Fincher’s long-developing English-language spin-off of the Korean phenomenon “Squid Game” according to The Playlist.
The project was initially conceived as an American version of “Squid Game” with Dennis Kelly, creator of the British series “Utopia,” hired to write the series back in 2024.
At the time, Netflix was eager to develop an American version of the smash hit, but the project’s development struggles and some executive changes at the streamer have shifted priorities.
As Fincher moved on to other films, such as the upcoming “The Adventures of Cliff Booth,” the project also lost momentum.
Instead, Netflix is reportedly looking into versions tailored to individual international markets (ala “Money Heist”) with Fincher’s take no longer part of the overall plan. The original series concluded its three-season run in 2025.
Fincher is gearing up for a few days of reshoots on ‘Cliff Booth’ scheduled for this month. That film will debut in cinemas on November 25th.
