Hot off getting rave reviews for his role as the blind Eumaeus in Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey,” actor John Leguizamo is coming back to Universal for another major movie.
The actor has joined the cast of “Top Gun: Maverick” and “F1” director Joseph Kosinski’s “Miami Vice ’85,” where he will reportedly take on the role of the main villain though specifics are under wraps.
Leguizamo will star opposite leads Michael B. Jordan as Ricardo Tubbs and Austin Butler as James ‘Sonny’ Crockett.
The story will explore the glamour and corruption of mid-1980s Miami as it follows two detectives who work undercover.
The project is said to be inspired by the pilot episode and first season of the landmark television series, which Michael Mann produced and was hugely influential on the TV and cultural landscape.
Also on board are Whitney Peak, Camila Morrone and Danny Ramirez. Filming is set to start in November with the project shooting in New York and Miami.
“Miami Vice ’85” is set to release in cinemas on May 19th 2028.
Leguizamo recently also scored a role in the studio’s untitled feature project from filmmaking duo The Daniels, and will next be seen in Mike Flanagan’s “The Exorcist: Martyrs” opening in March next year.
