With Skydance now running Warner Bros. Pictures, the company must now deal with the various projects they’ve inherited from prior Warners chiefs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy.
A new report at Page Six claims Warner’s new owners face losses of over $800 million for its 2026 film slate, and titles coming in 2027 could be bad.
This year alone some of the biggest duds include “Digger” which is reportedly a $250 million write-off, “The Bride” losing over $100 million and “Supergirl” losing around $200 million. Warners’ share of the box office fell from 21% in 2025 to just 6% at this point in the year.
One source tells the outlet that De Luca and Abdy “moved all of their problem children out of the year (2026)” and pushed them into 2027 where Skydance is now dealing with them.
One of them is the Sam Esmail-directed and Julia Roberts-led psychological thriller “Panic Carefully” which cost $60 million to make and was shot back in January 2025.
Another is Nancy Meyers’ “Paris Paramount” which is the most expensive romantic comedy ever made at over $120 million. The J.J. Abrams-directed “The Great Beyond” was also recently pushed to next year.
Originally it seemed as if Abdy and/or De Luca would replace Dan Lin as Netflix’s new film chief(s), but the outlet says “that seems less likely by the day” as the streamer is concerned with Wall Street perceptions.
