Justin Chadwick (“The Other Boleyn Girl,” “Bleak House”) is set to direct “The First Grader” for BBC Films, Sixth Sense Productions and Origin Pictures says The Hollywood Reporter.
Based on a true story, the film follows an elderly Kenyan who signs up for school on the back of a government pledge of free education for everyone.
Having fought for his country’s liberation, the old man wants the chance of an education so long denied — even if it means sitting in a classroom alongside 6-year-olds.
Emmy winner Ann Peacock (“The Chronicles of Narnia”) penned the script while Naomie Harris and Oliver Litondo star.
Shooting is currently underway around Nairobi for a six-week shoot. David Thompson, Richard Harding and Sam Feuer are producing.
Chadwick remains attached to “The Tenderness of Wolves” and the William Tell feature “Ironbow” which are both in development.
