Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group has acquired most international distribution rights for Robert Rodriguez’s “Machete,” the feature film spin-off from the “Grindhouse” trailer says the trades.
The story centers on a former Mexican police officer who turns the tables on the crooks who double-crossed him. Danny Trejo, Robert De Niro, Jessica Alba, Cheech Marin, Michelle Rodriguez and Rose McGowan star.
Rodriguez, who wrote the screenplay, co-directs with Ethan Maniquis. Filming is underway in Austin, Texas.
