Fan Offering Millions To Finish “Prince of Persia”

Ubisoft

A fan of the “Prince of Persia” game franchise has reportedly offered Ubisoft more than €5 million (around $5.6 million U.S. dollars) to resume development of their remake of “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time”.

The game was originally announced in September 2020 and was scheduled for release in January 2021 before being delayed multiple times.

In January this year came the news from Ubisoft that had scrapped the project as part of a “major organisational, operational and portfolio reset” and indicating concerns over the quality and amount of finances required to finish it.

Today, a fan shared an open letter on social media (via Dexerto) hoping to convince the publisher to reconsider – offering to help finance the project without asking for a share of its profits or ownership. They say:

“My motivation is not to obtain financial profits, a share of the sales, or any rights over the intellectual property. My only goal would be to help make this video game reach the players and allow the community to enjoy the work that has been done.”

The €5 million is just an “initial budget” they’d be willing to allocate toward the project, subject to a formal agreement with Ubisoft, an assessment of whether development is viable, and the conditions that Ubisoft considers appropriate.

Ubisoft has yet to publicly respond to the proposal.
