Back in May last year, filmmaker Michael Bay denied reports that production was underway on a “Skibidi Toilet” film, which he was supposedly directing.
It ended almost a year of reports indicating that Bay and former Paramount Pictures president Adam Goodman were developing the project, with Goodman saying on a Variety podcast: “We are absolutely in talks right now, both on the television side and the earliest conversations right now on the film side.”
Goodman also said “Skibidi Toilet” is something that could be the next ‘Transformers’ or Marvel universe.
Since then, there’s been nothing until today. Puck News is reporting that Bay is “definitely developing” a film based on the “Skibidi Toilet” IP.
“Skibidi Toilet” began as an 11-second video uploaded to YouTube in February 2023 in which a head emerges from a toilet singing. So began a cultural phenomenon as the video turned into more than 70 short videos (all under five minutes) depicting an escalating war between the Toilets and the Cyborgs.
At last report, Bay was planning the Will Smith-starring “Fast and Loose” film for Netflix, but the two reached a creative impasse, and Bay left the project. John Swab then took the helm of that film.
Bay hasn’t directed a film since 2022’s “Ambulance,” though is still attached to direct a film adaptation of classic arcade game “OutRun”.
