Blumhouse has picked up the screen rights to James Tynion IV and Werther Dell’Edera’s popular 2019 comic “Something Is Killing the Children”.
The property, which was previously in development as a Mike Flanagan-produced live-action Netflix series, is now set to get two adaptations under Jason Blum’s company.
These will include a live-action feature film and an adult animated television series. The latter will be shepherded by Tynion himself. Blumhouse reportedly won a multi-company bidding war for the property.
The story deals with a town plagued by monsters that feast on children, with one teen survivor telling tales that no adult believes because they can’t see them.
Into this scenario enters a mysterious young woman named Erica Slaughter who occasionally converses with her stuffed animal. She isn’t there to mince words but rather to mince monsters.
The work blends gripping horror and a sombre tone with grief, alienation, family dynamics and LGBTQ themes in the mix.
The comic earned an Eisner nomination for best new series in 2020 with a win for best series in 2022.
