Following the in-production teaser trailer released in cinemas this past Summer with “Jurassic World: Rebirth,” a clip that still hasn’t officially been released online, it sounds like the proper first trailer for Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” has been earmarked for a date.
World of Reel is reporting that the trailer for the mythical action epic is being lined up to debut with copies of “Avatar: Fire and Ash” releasing on December 19th.
The arrangement has worked out for Universal and Disney in the past; Nolan’s last film, “Oppenheimer”, had its first trailer attached to copies of “Avatar: The Way of Water” back in late 2022.
Tickets for very select 70mm IMAX evening showings went on sale this summer and sold out most of their showings, with 25,000+ tickets sold over 22 locations.
“The Odyssey,” shot on a budget of around $250 million, will reportedly utilise brand-new, state-of-the-art IMAX cameras throughout. Filming on the project wrapped in August, following a seven-month shoot across Italy, Malta, Morocco, Greece, Scotland and Iceland.
Set in the 8th century BC, after the ten-year Trojan War, the Greek hero Odysseus, King of Ithaca, travels from Troy to Ithaca via Africa and southern Europe. His journey lasts an additional ten years, during which he faces many dangers, and all of his crewmates are killed.
In his absence, Odysseus is presumed dead, leaving his wife, Penelope, and son, Telemachus, to deal with a group of unruly suitors competing for Penelope’s hand in marriage.
The cast includes Matt Damon as Odysseus, Tom Holland as Telemachus, Anne Hathaway as Penelope, Zendaya as Athena, Robert Pattinson as Hermes, Charlize Theron as Circe, along with Lupita Nyong’o, Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie, John Leguizamo, Elliot Page, Himesh Patel, Bill Irwin, Samantha Morton, Jesse Garcia, Will Yun Lee, Rafi Gavron, Shiloh Fernandez, Mia Goth, Corey Hawkins, and Nick E. Tarabay in undisclosed roles.
“The Odyssey” will be released in cinemas and IMAX on July 17th 2026.
