Tim Curry, the iconic British star of films such as “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” and “Clue,” has died. He was 80.
According to TMZ, Curry died Tuesday night at his home in Los Angeles. The actor suffered a major stroke in 2012 and had been plagued with serious health issues in the decade since. No foul play is suspected in the case.
In his time, he received an Emmy Award as well as nominations for a Grammy Award, two Olivier Awards and three Tony Awards.
After years in London’s West End, he really broke out with his debut screen role as Dr. Frank N. Furter in the iconic 1975 feature “The Rocky Horror Picture Show”. He followed that with films like “Annie,” “The Ploughman’s Lunch” and “Times Square”.
A decade after his debut he drew notices again in 1985 for his work as the butler Wadsworth in cult comedy classic “Clue” as well as the villain Darkness in Ridley Scott’s fantasy feature “Legend”.
In the 1990s he had memorable turns as Dr. Petrov in “The Hunt for Red October,” Mr. Hector in “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York,” Mr. Jigsaw in “Loaded Weapon 1,” Cardinal Richelieu in “The Three Musketeers,” Farley Claymore in “The Shadow,” Long John Silver in “Muppets Treasure Island” and Herkermer Homolka in “Congo”.
He also delivered one of his most iconic villain performances to date Pennywise the Clown in the original mini-series adaptation of Stephen King’s “IT”.
Curry continued acting in films right up until his stroke with parts in films like “Charlie’s Angels,” “Scary Movie 2,” “Addams Family Reunion,” “Kinsey,” and “Burke & Hare”.
He was also prolific on TV with guest or recurring roles on the likes of “Earth 2,” “Over the Top,” “The Naked Truth,” “Family Affair,” “Will & Grace,” “Agatha Christie’s Poirot” and “Wiseguy” in the live-action realm.
He also lent his voice to video games like “Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger” and “Dragon Age: Origins” along with hundreds of animated episodes of shows like “The Wild Thornberrys,” “Voltron: The Third Dimension,” “Mighty Ducks,” “Jumanji,” “Gargoyles,” “The Mask: Animated Series,” “Duckman,” “Sonic the Hedgehog,” “Aaahh!!! Real Monsters,” “Captain Planet and the Planeteers,” “Young Justice,” and “Star Wars: The Clone Wars”
