“Chuck” and “Shazam” actor Zachary Levi has publicly discussed the possibility of returning as Flynn Rider in a live-action remake of “Tangled” at Disney Pictures.
The 2010 feature, an adaptation of the Rapunzel story, sees Levi playing the charming and quick-witted swashbuckler and thief who has a change of heart upon falling in love with Rapunzel, the lost princess of Corona.
Back in 2020 came word that Disney was looking into a live-action take, albeit one more centered on Rapunzel than being a direct “Tangled” remake. Now a video has emerged of Levi speaking at FAN EXPO Chicago recently where he was asked about the possibility of returning as Flynn.
He says while he’d like to return, his age (42) would be an issue. He also spoke about the online rumors Florence Pugh is up for the Rapunzel role and says:
“Listen, I would love…to do another iteration… I would love to do it. But also, I am…per the story, Rapunzel is 17 turning 18. And, uh, I don’t know…not that I haven’t been younged down for some other roles, but I don’t know.
There was this thing floating around the Internet, I just saw it earlier. Someone sent me that Florence Pugh potentially might play the role of Rapunzel [in Tangled]. And if Florence played Rapunzel, maybe! Which would also be a trip because my real last name is Pugh, by the way… so you’d have a ‘Pugh Pugh’ in Tangled? Come on! That would be really funny. But, from a story perspective, I’m not 24.”
“Tangled” remains available on Disney+ whilst a live-action film is still in early development.
