Seven months and much Twitter fan campaigning later, Canadian writer and showrunner Simon Barry has announced that Netflix’s cancelled “Warrior Nun” series is being resurrected for a third season.
Barry didn’t offer many details in his posting, saying only on Twitter: “Today I’m happy to officially report that because of your combined voices, passion and amazing efforts – #WarriorNun will return and is going to be more EPIC than you could imagine. More details to come! SOON! Thankyou!!”
The series debuted on Netflix in 2020 and released its second season in November last year. The show’s second season scored a 99% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on over 5,000 reviews – said to be the highest audience score to date for a Netflix series.
It’s unlikely Netflix itself has reversed its decision as Barry likely would’ve made that clear if that were the case. Instead, one of the countless campaigns to pitch the series to every streaming service has potentially paid off – it’s just not clear how.
Based on the comic series by Ben Dunn, the series revolves around the story of a 19-year-old woman who wakes up in a morgue with a new lease on life and a divine artifact embedded in her back.
She discovers she is now part of the ancient Order of the Cruciform Sword that has been tasked with fighting demons on Earth, and powerful forces representing both heaven and hell want to find and control her.
Alba Baptista, Toya Turner, Lorena Andrea, Kristina Tonteri-Young, Tristán Ulloa, Thekla Reuten, Sylvia De Fanti and William Miller co-star.
