The Robert Pattinson-led thriller “Primetime” drew raves out of its debut at the Venice Film Festival on Saturday.
The film received an enthusiastic seven-minute ovation with Pattinson’s partner Suki Waterhouse in attendance – the actress/singer cheering loudly during the event.
With 14 reviews counted, the title sits at 93% and a highly impressive 8.3/10 average rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
The Lance Oppenheim-directed film draws inspiration from the iconic early 2000s reality TV series “To Catch a Predator” and stars Pattinson as that show’s host, journalist Chris Hansen.
The series follows Hansen working with the authorities in complex sting operations to catch child sexual predators.
The real Hansen has been very vocal in his criticisms about the film, making it clear he wasn’t involved in the creative process and hadn’t seen the movie.
At a press conference on Saturday, Pattinson hopes Hansen could come around once he sees the film: “I hope he likes the movie. There’s something electrifying about him. I would hope the amount of inspiration his character has given a lot of people for years is some kind of compliment.”
Merritt Wever, Skyler Gisondo, Matthew Maher and Bokeem Woodbine co-star in the film, which is currently targeting a September 25th release.
