Adria Arjona Talks Method Actor Madness

In recent years, the process of ‘method acting’ has come under scrutiny, as while it may have led to some Oscar-winning performances, it can and has resulted in some bizarre and problematic behaviour on set by some of those who adopt it.

That bad behaviour can negatively impact other people’s experiences and create a difficult (even toxic) work environment.

In a recent interview with Scene Stealers while promoting her new film “Onslaught,” actress Adria Arjona (“Andor,” “Hit Man”) spoke about a negative experience she had when one of her co-stars decided to go method.

While she declined to name the co-star or even reveal their gender, it has been widely speculated on social media that she’s referring to her “Morbius” co-star Jared Leto. She says:

“I’ve had it with an actor that I was like, ‘Good God,’ but it was more just like an ego trip. I’m like, ‘How are you getting away with this?’ I’m confused by it, too. I’m like, ‘Wow, if I start doing that, I will never work again.’

I was in shock by the behaviour, but also in awe. I was like, ‘You are f*cking fascinating. What makes you think that this is OK?’ I really needed to get into [their] brain about it.

I would watch interviews of this actor – not saying female or male, just actor in general – and I would be like, ‘Oh my God, they’re so nice. They’re so nice. What a good actor.’ It just fascinates me to see people and how they behave.

Can we cancel method acting? Because there are a lot of assholes in there, and then they just say, ‘I’m a method actor,’ and shit. I don’t buy it. You don’t get to behave like this. You will never see a woman say she’s a method actor. Just men who are assholes, because we wouldn’t get away with it. We would never work again.”

Leto was famously so committed to his ‘bit’ on “Morbius” that reports allege he spent 45 minutes using the restroom because he insisted on hobbling slowly on crutches to stay in character.

Arjona most recently filmed James Gunn’s “Man of Tomorrow” and has both that and “The Thomas Crown Affair” reboot coming out next year.
