Kumail Nanjiani (“Eternals”), comedian/actor Patton Oswalt, British comedian James Acaster and Emily Alyn Lind (“Gossip Girl”) have all joined the cast of the live-action “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” sequel at Sony Pictures.

Gil Kenan (“Monster House,” “Poltergeist”) helms the new entry – taking over from Jason Reitman who remains onboard as a producer and co-writer with Kenan and Jason Blumenfeld.

Ernie Hudson will be reprising his role of Winston Zeddemore, with Mckenna Grace, Paul Rudd, and Carrie Coon returning after making their debuts in ‘Afterlife’.

This next chapter of the Spengler family saga will return to New York City and the iconic firehouse of the original film and finally deal with that flashing red light on the ghost containment tank in the basement that appeared in the first film’s post-credits scene.

The revival film grossed more than $200 million worldwide from a $75 million budget with reviews heaping praise upon various elements of the production whilst also criticising the screenplay and gratuitous fan service.

The new film has already been slated for a December 20th release this year and filming on the project began earlier this week with the shoot to last through the next few months.
