Open Road Films has released a rather explosive and intense teaser trailer for the Gerard Butler-led action movie “Kandahar” which will score a U.S. wide theatrical release on May 26th.
The feature hails from “Angel Has Fallen” helmer Ric Roman Waugh, joins other big theatrical titles over the four-day Memorial Day holiday weekend such as Disney’s live-action “The Little Mermaid”.
Mitchell LaFortune and Waugh penned the script for “Kandahar,” which follows Tom Harris (Butler), who is an undercover CIA operative operating out of the Afghan city.
Stuck deep in hostile territory in Afghanistan after his mission is exposed, he and his Afghan translator must fight their way out to an extraction point in Kandahar – all whilst avoiding elite enemy forces and foreign spies tasked with hunting them down.
Navid Negahban, Ali Fazal, Travis Fimmel and Elnaaz Norouzi co-star, while Basil Iwanyk, Brendon Boyea, Erica Lee, Gerard Butler, Alan Siegel, Christian Mercuri, Ali Jaafar and Scott LaStaiti produce.
Butler recently had the action feature “Plane” in cinemas which co-starred Mike Colter and is getting a Butler-less sequel titled “Ship”.
Butler also lent his voice to “Naya Legend of the Golden Dolphin” and “ARK: The Animated Series” and has multiple projects in development or pre-production on the way, including “Afterburn,” “Remote Control,” “Just Watch Me,” and sequels to both “Greenland” and “Den of Thieves”.
