“Fast X” Trailer Snags 295M Views

Universal Pictures

Universal Pictures has announced that the extended-length first trailer for “Fast X,” which debuted online on Friday last week, has been a smash hit.

That trailer for the tenth mainline entry in the “Fast and Furious” franchise pulled in roughly 295 million views globally in its first 72 hours of availability according to Variety.

The studio pushed hard on the trailer promotion, announcing the launch weeks ahead of time and releasing a series of ‘Legacy Trailers’ since the start of February commemorating each of the previous nine films.

They also hosted a trailer launch event in downtown Los Angeles last Thursday, featuring appearances from the cast. Other fan events were held in Mexico, France and Japan. The trailer came ahead of a thirty-second commercial which aired during Super Bowl LVII on Sunday.

The Louis Leterrier-helmed film serves as the first of a two-parter closing out the main franchise. In the film, Dante (Jason Momoa), son of nefarious “Fast Five” villain Hernan Reyes, has spent the last twelve years masterminding a plan to make Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) pay the ultimate price.

Dante’s plot will scatter Dom’s family from Los Angeles to the catacombs of Rome, from Brazil to London and from Portugal to Antarctica. New allies will be forged and old enemies will resurface.

Returnees include Diesel, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Michelle Rodriguez, Ludacris, Nathalie Emmanuel, Sung Kang, John Cena, Charlize Theron, Cardi B, Helen Mirren, Michael Rooker and Scott Eastwood.

Rita Moreno, Alan Ritchson and Daniela Melchior join the cast in “Fast X” which is set to hit theaters on May 19th.
