First Photo: Lady Gaga In “Joker: Folie a Deux”

Warner Bros. Pictures

Filmmaker Todd Phillips has premiered the first photo of singer/actress Lady Gaga in character in the currently shooting sequel “Joker: Folie a Deux” with Gaga subsequently reposting it via her Twitter.

The post, timed nicely for Valentine’s Day, sees Gaga expected to be playing Harley Quinn in the sequel to the R-rated 2019 film which grossed $1 billion and landed Joaquin Phoenix the best actor Oscar.

That film followed Arthur Fleck (Phoenix), an aspiring stand-up and clown whose mental health issues cause him to spiral until he ultimately dons the Joker persona.

The sequel will reportedly unfold almost entirely within Gotham City’s Arkham Asylum and is tipped to be at least partly a musical with Fleck’s reality-bending hallucinations likely to play a part.

Phillips once again directs from a script he wrote with Scott Silver. The photo follows on from a first shot of Phoenix reprising the role which was posted on December 10th to announce the commencement of filming.

Shooting is currently continuing in New York and Los Angeles well ahead of the film’s October 4th 2024 release date.
