Briana Middleton Joins “Metropolis” Series

Apple TV+

Briana Middleton (“The Tender Bar,” “Sharper”) has been cast in the lead role of “Mr. Robot” and “Homecoming” creator Sam Esmail’s upcoming Apple TV series adaptation of the iconic and highly influential 1927 Fritz Lang sci-fi feature “Metropolis”.

The eight-part drama is being shot in Melbourne, Australia and will make use of one of the world’s largest permanent LED volumes – the virtual production infrastructure pioneered by the Disney+ series “The Mandalorian”. The series was greenlit by the streaming giant a year ago.

The original film took place in a futuristic urban dystopia where the city’s wealthy elite enjoyed a lavish life of comfort and ease in penthouses and pleasure gardens, whilst scores of workers labor at dangerous machinery in the bowels of the city to keep everything running.

Freder Fredersen, the son of the most powerful man in Metropolis, has an awakening after meeting a young female worker and witnessing a number of workers die in an industrial accident.

Middleton will play the role of Finnie Polito in the new take, but specifics of this new version and her character are under wraps – though is said to be a leading role.

Esmail is writing, directing and showrunning the project for Matchbox Pictures and Universal Studio Group. Chad Hamilton also executive produces the series.

Middleton can be seen this Friday alongside Julianne Moore, John Lithgow, Sebastian Stan and Justice Smith in the Apple original feature “Sharper”.
