Searchlight Pictures is reportedly closing in on a deal to acquire the Jonathan Majors-led dark drama “Magazine Dreams”.
Elijah Bynum penned and directs the feature starring “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” and “Creed III” star Majors as a troubled amateur bodybuilder willing to go to any lengths to be noticed.
Majors famously ate over 6000 daily calories and conducted endless workouts that got his bench press up to 340 pounds to convincingly play an amateur and socially awkward bodybuilder with major anger issues.
As things continue to go wrong, Maddox progressively heads into the darkest places on his trip down the rabbit hole which escalates into serious violence.
According to Deadline, Searchlight beat out the likes of Neon, Sony Pictures Classics and HBO to snag the film. Further details about their release plans will come when the deal is officially announced.
Reviews for Majors’ performance as Killian Maddox in “Magazine Dreams” have been universal raves out of the film’s world premiere at Sundance where it drew many comparisons to “Taxi Driver”.
Much like with “The Whale,” reviews for the film overall are a bit more mixed but the central performance is already being judged as a serious potential awards candidate.
Haley Bennett, Harrison Page, Taylour Paige, Michael O’Hearn, and Harriet Sansom Harris co-star in the film.
