Ahead of the third season return of “The Mandalorian” on March 1st, several of the key people involved in the series have been giving interviews and discussing what fans can expect.
Though he didn’t have to do it, actor Pedro Pascal previously indicated spent a good portion of the first season of the show on-set in the helmet and playing the Din Djarin character.
By the time of filming on the upcoming third season though, the actor was shooting HBO’s “The Last of Us” and so isn’t likely to have been much involved beyond his regular voice work.
Speaking with Empire about his job, he says the outfit “is like putting on a head-to-toe glove with weights on it. It’s ironic that you can’t see any facial expression because it puts you in the world so completely, and instantly makes the character feel real, but you can’t see s—!'”
He adds that though they’ve “continued to finesse and make it more comfortable,” the experience of filming is like “going blind. Your breath completely fogs up the narrow slit that you can see through. There’s no peripheral vision. If there’s a hole, I’m going to fall into it.”
Meanwhile creator Jon Favreau tells Variety he and Dave Filoni aren’t making any big screen plans for Mando or Grogu as they’re busy enough with everything going on:
“There’s always an opportunity when you have a set of characters and stories that people connect with that you could cross-media into different areas. Marvel does it quite effectively. It’s just a matter of where our time should be spent and what the appetite of the audience is. With all these stories we’re telling, it definitely is a full-time job just keeping this going with what we’re doing now. Television has a much different rhythm and schedule than film does.”
Finally, Katee Sackhoff reprises her role of Mandalorian warrior Bo-Katan Kryze in the third season, a role she’s been voicing in animation for over a decade now and in live-action since the second season of Mando. Speaking with Empire, she says five different women donned Bo-Katan’s armour throughout the shooting of the third season – the wearer changing depending upon the need but says she has a “wicked knee-slide” and when you see her character do that “you’ll know that’s me”.
