In 2019, the “Fast and Furious” franchise scored its first spin-off feature with “Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw”. It overcame mixed reviews to earn more than $750 million at the box office.
Naturally, there have been mutterings of a sequel, one that would likely reveal the director of the terrorist group Eteon, who is only heard, but not seen, in the film. Ryan Reynolds voiced that evil mastermind in the movie along with his onscreen cameo as Agent Locke,.
Kelly McCormick was a producer on that film and is the wife of its director David Leitch. McCormick also just released the holiday-themed action comedy “Violent Night” and was asked by ComicBook.com about a potential ‘Hobbs’ sequel. She says she’d love to do one, but there has been no progress:
“There are no conversations at this time. I do feel like there were a lot of seeds planted to try to create a spinoff in a way that included a Kevin Hart and a Ryan Reynolds and sort of all that kind of stuff.
That was intentional but not necessarily because we had plans in mind, just because it would be fun to have different players for them to play with if anybody or we wanted to go for it in a different way.
So, you know, I don’t know, I mean Dwayne’s a really busy guy, and you know, he would be the one to motivate all of that. So, you know, we’re ready if he wants to, and until then, he’s just dominating, so all power to him.”
Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham starred in the original alongside Idris Elba as the villain Brixton, and Vanessa Kirby as Statham’s sister. Johnson is currently in the midst of shooting the action film “Red One” alongside Chris Evans and J.K. Simmons.
