Johnson Keen To Start “Knives Out 3”

Netflix

One of the most anticipated films of the last few weeks of the year is Rian Johnson’s “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery,” which sees Daniel Craig reprise the role of detective Benoit Blanc.

Ahead of its brief one-week theatrical run starting on November 23rd, Johnson has been out talking up the film, which has so far received rave reviews from its various festival screenings.

Dave Bautista, Madelyn Cline, Kathryn Hahn, Jessica Henwick, Kate Hudson, Leslie Odom Jr., Janelle Monáe and Edward Norton star in the story, which sees someone winding up dead on a billionaire’s private island, with Blanc racing to solve this new mystery.

It’s the first of two sequels that are part of a deal between Johnson, Craig and Netflix, and it sounds like Johnson is super keen to get to work on the second of those films. Speaking with Total Film, he discusses his eagerness to jump into a third “Knives Out” – so much so it’s looking like his potential next project:

“I had for a while thought that maybe I should do something else first […] But the God’s honest truth is, I had so much fun making this one, and the creative challenge of figuring out a third movie that’s completely different from both this one and the first one – right now, that’s the most interesting creative challenge to me. So I might just dive in and see what we come up with.”

Johnson has made it clear how heavily his works are inspired by Agatha Christie’s novels and their prior film adaptations, with the new one seemingly evoking “Evil Under the Sun” among others. Which works the third film could take inspiration from is unclear, but there’s plenty of material to choose from.
