With the huge numbers it has pulled in terms of audience, Netflix wanting a second season of “Squid Game” was inevitable.
Yet to date they have played down a follow-up, deferring to creator/writer/director Hwang Dong-hyuk who has continually stayed vague about committing to any follow-up just yet.
Speaking with the Associated Press this week though, Hwang confirms plans for a follow-up are already underway and we will see Lee Jung-jae’s character Gi-hun return. However there’s no real idea of when a follow-up will hit screens:
“So, there has been so much pressure, so much love, and so much demand for a second season. So, I almost feel like you leave us with no choice! But I will say there will indeed be a second season. It’s in my head now. I’m in the planning process currently. But I do think it’s too early to say when or how that is going to happen. So I will promise you this…Gi-hun will come back and he will do something for the world.”
“Squid Game” is the top-rated show in Netflix Originals history in terms of household views so far with 142 million as of late October and still holding strong in second place of most popular series on Netflix this past week (behind only “You”).
