The Borg Queen is returning with a new, albeit familiar, face taking on the role for the upcoming second season of “Star Trek: Picard”.
Annie Wersching, best known for her regular role of Agent Renee Walker on “24” and more recently Julia on Amazon’s “Bosch” along with countless other shows from “Timeless” to “The Rookie,” has been cast in the role which will reportedly recur over multiple episodes.
Alice Krige played the part in both the 1996 film “Star Trek: First Contact” and the series finale of “Star Trek: Voyager” while “Arrow” alum Susanna Thompson took on the role for several “Voyager” episodes.
The character has seemingly died at least several times on screen before and the nature of her remains unclear. The Borg were originally portrayed as a collective consciousness with no centralised leader.
Then they became more analogous to a hive with a single Queen and soldiers, other times it has been suggested there are multiple queens serving as an array of centralised processing nodes – thus the death of one would have no major impact on the rest of the Collective.
Wersching previously guest-starred on an episode of “Enterprise” back in 2002.
