The Witcher
Following photos of Henry Cavill’s Geralt and Freya Allan’s Ciri earlier this week, new images have arrived of Anya Chalotra as sorceress Yennefer of Vengerberg in the second season of Netflix’s “The Witcher” fantasy series.
The photos seemingly confirm Yennefer survives the Battle of Sodden Hill but has been taken captive by the invading Nilfgaardian army. The new season is expected to closely adhere to the events of the book “Blood of Elves”. The new season is expected to premiere on Netflix in 2021. [Source: Twitter]
On Becoming a God in Central Florida
Showtime has reversed its renewal decision and has cancelled Kirsten Dunst-led dark comedy “On Becoming a God in Central Florida” after just one season. Showtime has cited scheduling issues relating to the novel coronavirus as the reason.
The series was set in a small Orlando-adjacent town in 1992 and followed a minimum-wage water park employee. Despite the axing, the cast was reportedly already paid for season two. [Source: The Live Feed]
Angels and Demons
Black Bear Television has set filmmaker Scott Cooper (“Black Mass,” “Crazy Heart”) to write and direct all the episodes of an upcoming true-crime story thriller series “Angels & Demons”. The story deals with three women that were found dead in the shallow waters outside of Tampa Bay back in 1989 and were traced back to the serial killer, Oba Chandler. Cooper’s horror film “Antlers” is slated to release early next year. [Source: Deadline]
Spitting Image
BritBox’s reboot of British satirical puppet show “Spitting Image” has been renewed for a second season just days after the series premiered online. The caricature comedy will be back in fall 2021 after the first season helped boost new subscribers ten-fold compared to its average daily sign-up rate. NBC backed out as Spitting Image’s U.S. broadcast partner just weeks before the premiere due to there being “too much nervousness” about its satirical content among NBC executives. [Source: TV Line]
