On April Fools’ Day this year, FDG Entertainment released screenshots of a “DuckTales” video game based on the 2017 animated series reboot. The shots looked glorious, but it was quickly dismissed as a prank. Well there is good news and bad news. The good news? Seems the game is mostly legit. The bad news, its not happening.
FDG Entertainment confirmed a day later that the shots were from a pitch which they made to Disney in early 2019, a pitch for a game in same style as the original and celebrated side-scrolling “Ducktales” game which scored an acclaimed and high-selling remaster in 2013, but updated to match the graphics of the 2017 series.
It’s a real love letter to the original, however FDG were apparently turned down and so they explained how it ended up as their April Fool’s Day gag:
“Thank you for the overwhelming feedback on our DuckTales Quackshot screens. We worked hard on a legit pitch to Disney but unfortunately never got the license. It would’ve been a shame to bury the material so it became this year’s #AprilFools. Maybe someday Disney will reconsider?”
The response to the original post was overwhelmingly positive to the point that many are asking that Disney actually reconsider their decision as many want to play the game. The report hits as the show’s third season premiered earlier today on DisneyXD and Disney Now with two new episodes.
