4K Sony Pictures Titles
Sony (Columbia Pictures) has announced that six of its iconic films are coming to 4K Ultra HD disc for the first time in a collector’s set, containing “Lawrence of Arabia,” “Dr. Strangelove,” “Gandhi,” “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington,” “A League of Their Own” and “Jerry Maguire” all coming to the format. The collection will only be a limited run of few than 8,000 units in the United States. [Source: Columbia Pictures]
Miramax
ViacomCBS has closed its $375 million purchase of 49% of Miramax, giving the conglomerate access to nearly 800 titles including films like “Pulp Fiction” and “Good Will Hunting”. BeIN Media Group retains a 51% stake in the company, which it acquired in 2016.
Paramount Pictures has entered into an exclusive, long-term distribution agreement for Miramax’s film library; and an exclusive, long-term first-look agreement allowing Paramount Pictures to develop, produce, finance and distribute new film and television projects based on Miramax titles. Shadowed
“Shazam” and “Lights Out” director David F. Sandberg has used his time in self-isolation to craft the three-minute short film “Shadowed” with the help of his spouse, actress Lotta Losten. The story follows a woman, stuck in her home, who is being haunted by something and the project is dubbed a sort-of companion piece to the original “Lights Out” short.
Gag Reels
With both “Sonic the Hedgehog” and “Bad Boys for Life” hitting home video, Paramount and Sony respectively have released gag reels from the films online. Both titles are on Digital HD now ahead of disc releases later.
