Disney’s Live-Action “Snow White” In 2021?

There’s no question 2019 is going to be Disney’s biggest year to date with many of its movies making over a billion worldwide and plenty of high profile sequels, remakes, and more ahead of the much-touted Disney+ launch.

In fact it’s so big that 2020’s line-up for the Mouse House is actually pretty anaemic in comparison. 2021 however will see a return to big time tentpoles again though with four high profile Marvel films, “Cruella” in May, and a new “Indiana Jones” film in July.

Now it appears another high profile title may be joining the ranks as The DisInsider reports that the studio is moving forward fast on its proposed live-action adaptation of “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” with production expected to begin next March in Vancouver and casting already underway.

Marc Webb (“The Amazing Spider-Man”) is set to direct the film from a script by “The Girl on the Train” screenwriter Erin Cressida Wilson, and the project is said to be a musical with Oscar-winning songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul set to write new music for the film like they did with “Aladdin”. Marc Platt will also produce.

Disney has March 12th 2021 and October 8th 2021 set aside for live-action adaptations of their properties with the currently in pre-production “The Little Mermaid” likely to take that first slot. While live-action takes on “Pinocchio,” “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” and “Lilo & Stitch” are also in the works for a theatrical release, none have a director attached at this point.
