Ava DuVernay’s upcoming Netflix limited series about the Central Park Five has set a title and global launch date – May 31st.
“When They See Us” will be a four-episode series focusing on the brutal crime and false prosecutions that shocked New York City and the nation thirty years ago.
Michael K. Williams, Vera Farmiga, John Leguizamo and Felicity Huffman among others star in the story about five teen boys wrongly accused of a brutal rape of a jogger and railroaded by a problematic criminal justice system.
The series aims to give the five men a platform to finally tell their full stories five years after their names were finally cleared. DuVernay created, co-wrote and directs the entire limited series.
Not thugs. Not wilding. Not criminals. Not even the Central Park Five. They are Korey, Antron, Raymond, Yusef, Kevin. They are millions of young people of color who are blamed, judged and accused on sight. May 31. A film in four parts about who they really are. WHEN THEY SEE US. pic.twitter.com/QQBVqo4TYM
