Thrones Prequel Series Begins Production

It’s official, the pilot for the “Game of Thrones” prequel series has begun filming in Northern Ireland for HBO. Shooting is underway in the same location the original “Game of Thrones” series was also filmed.

Jane Goldman and author George R.R. Martin are spearheading the series which is set several millennia before the events of ‘Thrones’. Should it go to series, it will chronicle the world’s descent from the Golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour and will deal with the horrifying secrets of Westeros history, the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East, and the Starks of legend.

S.J. Clarkson will direct the pilot which boasts a cast that includes Naomi Watts, Josh Whitehouse, Naomi Ackie, Denise Gough, Jamie Campbell Bower, John Simm, Sheila Atim, Ivanno Jeremiah, Georgie Henley, Alex Sharp, Toby Regbo, Marquis Rodriguez, John Heffernan, Richard McCabe and Dixie Egerickx.

Goldman is serving as showrunner and will executive produce alongside Martin as well as Vince Gerardis and Daniel Zelman. No characters or actors from the recent “Game of Thrones” series will be appearing in the prequel.
