If one person could use a little more breathing room on his busy schedule, it’s Dwayne Johnson. Now it appears he may have some free time coming up with word from the man himself that the proposed third film in the Jules Verne-inspired “Journey” 3D film franchise has fallen by the wayside.
Johnson starred in 2012’s “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island,” a sequel to 2008’s “Journey to the Center of the Earth” with Brendan Fraser. Making a strong $339 million from a $79 million budget, talk of a third film began shortly after release and “Journey 3: From the Earth to the Moon” went into development shortly after.
This week a 15-year-old fan reached out to The Rock on Twitter to ask about the status of “Journey 3” and sadly he confrimed it’s not happening:
“Hey big man, good to see you asked dad’s permission to use his account. Unfortunately, I have no plans to make another Journey movie. My goal to make Jules Verne’s “From the Earth to the Moon” became a real challenge to crack creatively. Thx for being such a cool fan.”
Johnson’s upcoming projects include the already shot “Skyscraper,” “Fighting with My Family,” and “Rampage” and he will soon film “Jungle Cruise,” a “San Andreas” sequel and the “Black Adam” movie.
