Niki Caro (“Whale Rider,” “North Country”), Lesli Linka Glatter (“Homeland,” “Ray Donovan”) and Lorene Scafaria (“The Meddler,” “Seeking a Friend for the End of the World”) are reportedly the three names on the shortlist for the highly-coveted job of directing Marvel Studios’ “Captain Marvel”.
The project marks the first female-centric Marvel Studios superhero movie and stars Brie Larson in the title role. Heat Vision broke the list, adding that a decision won’t be made anytime soon as Marvel is being very deliberate in its search and there may be further names yet to surface.
Other names that were in contention but have apparently dropped out are “The Babadook” helmer Jennifer Kent, and “Kung Fu Panda 2” director Jennifer Yuh. Marvel will give a treatment and documents to the three directors in order to prepare a detailed presentation.
Larson plays Carol Danvers, an Air Force pilot who gains powers after her DNA becomes fused with an alien after an accident. Nicole Perlman (“Guardians of the Galaxy”) and Meg LeFauve (“Inside Out”) wrote the script.
The film has a release date of March 8th 2019.
