“Venom,” “Zombieland” and “Gangster Squad” director Ruben Fleischer has reportedly become the most likely person to direct the long-gestating “Uncharted” film adaptation at Sony Pictures.
Deadline reports there is no deal in place, but Fleischer is said to be atop a list of other candidates being considered and “the job is his if he wants it”.
Tom Holland stars as a young version of Nathan Drake, an Indiana Jones-like treasure hunter who jets around the world in search of priceless artifacts with his friend and mentor Sully (Mark Wahlberg). Rafe Judkins, Art Marcum and Matt Holloway penned the script.
Six directors have previously been linked to the project but have subsequently exited including names like David O. Russell, Neil Burger, Shawn Levy and most recently Travis Knight.
Sony is aiming to keep the film on track so that Holland will be able to shoot the movie before he gets to work on another “Spider-Man” later this year.
