“The Diplomat” Renewed For A Fifth Season

Netflix

Netflix has officially renewed its acclaimed series “The Diplomat” for a fifth season.

The renewal order comes just two weeks after the fourth season launched on the streamer and drew the best reviews yet, snagging a stunning 90/100 on Metacritic, which makes it one of the best-reviewed TV seasons of recent years.

The renewal also comes relatively late for the next season, which has often seen its subsequent season be in production when the previous one aired. Each season has seen its review scores increase.

While five seasons is a fairly long run for a streaming series, creator and showrunner Debora Cahn has previously indicated the team certainly aren’t planning this as a final run and the fourth season is much more the ‘juicy middle’ of the story.

The eight-episode fourth season reached No. 3 on Netflix’s global top 10 list in its second week and landed in the top 10 in 63 countries.

Keri Russell, Rufus Sewell, Alison Janney, Bradley Whitford, Ato Essandoh, Jodie Whittaker, Ali Ahn and Nana Mensah co-star.
