“Atlanta” creator/star Donald Glover is developing a TV series adaptation of the still popular 2017 battle royale video game “PUBG” (aka PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds).
Glover is set to star in, write, direct, and executive produce the project while his brother and frequent collaborator Stephen Glover will also write and executive produce.
Hailing from South Korean game company Krafton, the game sees up to 100 players deposited on an island and fight to be the last one standing.
Story details on the Netflix project are being kept under wraps for now. Other executive producers include Michael Schaefer for Neon TV, Fam Udeorji for Gilga, and Taeseok Jang and Sujin Lee for LV3H.
The project will mark Glover’s first work for Netflix. Back in 2021, producer Adi Shankar was reportedly tapped to create and showrun an animated “PUBG” series but that doesn’t appear to have gone through.
Should this take go to series, it will join multiple video game adaptations at Netflix including an “Assassin’s Creed” series, “Gears of War” film and animated series based on “Devil May Cry,” “Minecraft” and “Splinter Cell: Deathwatch”.
