NBC has handed out its first pilot order of the season, a TV series adaptation of the Kevin Hart and Tiffany Haddish-led comedy “Night School”.
Hart starred in, co-wrote and produced the film and will executive produce the pilot along with Will Packer and the film’s director Malcolm D. Lee. Chris Moynihan will write and executive produce the pilot for Universal Television.
The multi-cam series follows adults at a night school GED prep class who unexpectedly bond over their shared experience and find themselves helping each other both inside and outside of the classroom.
The order follows rival ABC earlier this week ordering “The Brides,” a sexy contemporary reimagining of Dracula as a family drama which is run by “Sabrina” creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and producer Greg Berlanti.
That network is also developing a Latinx reboot of its soapy drama “Revenge,” and a reboot of the late 1980s adult drama “Thirtysomething”.
