War of the Worlds
Gabriel Byrne and Elizabeth McGovern can be spotted in the first picture from the new eight-episode TV series adaptation of H.G. Wells’ “The War of the Worlds” for Canal Plus, Fox Networks Group Europe & Africa, and AGC Television.
Set in modern-day Europe. Byrne and McGovern lead a cast that includes Lea Drucker, Natasha Little, Daisy Edgar Jones, Stéphane Caillard, Adel Bencherif, and Guillaume Gouix. The project hails from “Misfits” creator Howard Overman and isn’t to be confused with a rival Edwardian England-set adaptation in the works at The BBC. [Source: Variety]
All Creatures Great and Small
UK Channel 5 and PBS are developing a new series adaptation of James Herriot’s book series “All Creatures Great and Small”. The show deals with country veterinarians in 1930s rural England and was previously made into a much-loved 1978-90 British series. To be shot in Yorkshire, the new show will consist of six episodes and a Christmas special. [Source: Variety]
Showtime and filmmaker David Ayer are developing an irreverent ‘anti-procedural’ one-hour series about private military contractors. Ayer will write and direct the series currently titled “The Company” which looks at the military contracting industry during its Wild West heyday post 9/11.
Also at Showtime, Lena Headey has been a cast in the hour-long dramedy pilot “Rita” as the title character – a headstrong, unconventional teacher and single mother who takes on every kind of authority – as well as her family – in a messy and unfiltered way. The pilot is being written and executive produced by Christian Torpe and is based on his original Danish series. [Source: TV Line]
Zombie Tidal Wave
Ian Ziering and his “Sharknado” helmer Anthony C. Ferrante are reuniting for “Zombie Tidal Wave” which Ziering will star in and produce while other key members of the “Sharknado” creative team are also on board. The film is set to premiere August 17th as part of a shark-themed weekend of Syfy original movies.
Ziering will play Hunter Shaw, a veteran sailor who helps locals band together after a tsunami brings hordes of the undead to the shores of his island community. Ferrante co-wrote the script with Parker and Josh LeBlanc. [Source: The Live Feed]
