Quick News Lion Shaggs Doremus Kong Air

The Lion King
The first behind-the-scenes photo from the upcoming live-action & CG animation hybrid feature remake of Disney’s “The Lion King” has arrived, posted by the film’s director Jon Favreau. Favreau poses with cast members Donald Glover as Simba, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa and Billy Eichner as Timon in the shot.

The film also includes John Oliver as Zazu, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, Alfre Woodard as Sarabi, John Kani as Rafiki, James Earl Jones as Mufasa, and Beyonce Knowles as Nala. Newcomers JD McCrary and Shahadi Wright Joseph will play young Simba and Nala, respectively, while the hyenas will be Eric Andre as Azizi, Florence Kasumba as Shenzi and Keegan-Michael Key as Kamari. The Shaggs
Elsie Fisher (“Eighth Grade”) is set to lead the musical feature “The Shaggs” based on the real-life story of the Wiggin sisters. Ken Kwapis (“A Walk in the Woods”) will direct, Joy Gregory will write and Alex Beattie will produce.

The trio were musically inept teenagers from New Hampshire who, in 1968, recorded one of the most infamous rock-and-roll albums of all time which is titled “Philosophy of the World”. [Source: THR]

Godzilla vs. Kong
Demian Bichir (“The Nun”) is in talks to join “Godzilla vs. Kong” at Legendary and Warner Bros. Pictures. The project is aiming for a May 22nd 2020 release date.

Millie Bobby Brown, Julian Dennison and Brian Tyree Henry will co-star in the Adam Wingard-directed monster movie which is due to begin filming in November in Atlanta. [Source: Heat Vision]

Untitled Drake Doremus Film
Shailene Woodley, Jamie Dornan, Sebastian Stan and Matthew Gray Gubler have scored the lead roles in Drake Doremus’ next untitled film which begins filming in Los Angeles this week for CJ Entertainment.

Doremus and Jardine Libaire co-wrote the contemporary L.A. set drama about a thirtysomething woman navigating through love and heartbreak over the course of one year. During that time, she will unlock the secrets to her life in a sudden turn of events and in the most surprising of places. [Source: Deadline]

Air Strike
Despite the Chinese release having been scrapped, Lionsgate is proceeding with a U.S. release of the Bruce Willis and Fan Bingbing-led Chinese WW2 drama “Air Strike” directed by Xiao Feng. Adrien Brody, Liu Ye and Nicolas Tse also co-star in the film which will get a direct to DVD and VOD release with a small theatrical run as well. [Source: Deadline]
