Michael Caine is in final negotiations to join New Line’s “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island”, the sequel to “Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D” reports Heat Vision.
Josh Hutcherson reprises his role from the first movie as a young man who, along with his mom’s boyfriend (Dwayne Johnson), goes on a trip to a mythical island to find his missing grandfather.
Caine will play said grandfather who gets involved in several action and chase sequences including one involving giant bees. Brad Peyton directs from a script loosely based on Jules Verne’s “The Mysterious Island”.
Beau Flynn, Tripp Vinson and Charlotte Huggins are producing. Filming kicks off next month in Hawaii and later North Carolina.
