Steven Spielberg’s “Disclosure Day” has pulled in $44 million domestically and $48.9 million overseas, for a combined worldwide opening weekend of $92.9 million.
The film actually came in slightly ahead of expectations, with the title originally projected to do just $35 million domestically and $30 million overseas. Spielberg’s movies are often staggered globally on release so it’s difficult to get a proper comparison.
One thing the film did do was push last week’s two newcomers out of the way, both “Scary Movie” and “Masters of the Universe” seeing massive drops of 73% and 71% respectively in their second weekends.
“Scary Movie” is now in third with $14.5 million while ‘Masters’ is in fifth with $8.7 million.
Indie horrors “Obsession” and “Backrooms took second and fourth respectively, the former with a further $19 million for a fourth consecutive weekend that has outgrossed its debut weekend.
The latter made $11.3 million domestically this weekend, and it’s just $5 million shy of beating “The Mandalorian and Grogu” total domestic gross. Domestically, “The Furious” and “Stop That Train” debuted to $3 million and $2.2 million respectively.
“Michael” is closing in on the $1 billion mark with $932.2 million, “Star Wars: Mandalorian and Grogu” is now at $315 million and “Obsession” is up to $286 million worldwide.
