Almost the entire cast of the 2005 holiday film “The Family Stone” is set to reunite for a sequel, “The Families Stone,” which has been set at Searchlight.
Rachel McAdams, Claire Danes, Dermot Mulroney, Craig T. Nelson, Sarah Jessica Parker, Luke Wilson, Tyrone Giordano, Elizabeth Reaser, Paul Schneider, and Brian White are all confirmed to be returning.
The obvious exception is the late, great Diane Keaton who passed away in October last year at the age of 79. Her character, Sybil Stone, passed away in the original.
The original follows Everett Stone (Mulroney) as he brings his tightly wound girlfriend Meredith (Parker) home to meet his liberal, bohemian New England family over the holidays. A disastrous visit leads to romantic complications, shifting loyalties and the reveal that Keaton’s Sybil is terminally ill.
The sequel picks up 20 years later as the Stone family again reunites for Christmas, only to face the season’s biggest surprise – their father (Nelson) has unexpectedly invited the woman he’s fallen in love with to meet the family.
Tom Bezucha has returned to direct from his own script, with original producer Michael London back to produce alongside Shannon Gaulding, Parker and Alison Benson.
