BlizzCon 2026 has kicked off with several major announcements – one of them tied to a major TV production.
Developer Blizzard Entertainment has announced that its bringing its highly popular “Diablo” franchise to television with a new Netflix animated series currently in production.
Blizzard president Johanna Faries revealed the series on stage with only a few details – no date, no trailer, no images.
Even the press release was frustratingly vague with the quote:
“After decades of bringing entire universes to life through our games, we’re partnering with some creative powerhouses to tell even more stories beyond gaming across new screens. A new animated series set in the world of ‘Diablo’ is in development with Netflix. More details will be shared in the future, but this is only the beginning, with even more taking shape across our universes.”
It marks the latest TV series based on a game setup at netflix with shows based on “The Witcher,” “Cyberpunk 2077,” “Splinter Cell,” “Tomb Raider,” “Castlevania,” “Dragon Quest,” “Resident Evil,” “League of Legends,” “Cuphead,” “Sonic the Hedgehog,” “Dragon Age,” “Tekken, “Far Cry” and “Pokemon” having been made or in the works.
The developer also announced a 2029 release date for “Diablo V,” the next major entry in the game series and dropped a teaser trailer for that title which you can see below.
