Peacock has handed out a second-season order for its series-length reboot of 1989 cult comedy “The ‘Burbs”.
The new version is set in present-day American suburbia and follows a young couple who have reluctantly relocated to the husband’s childhood home. Their world is upended when a new neighbour moves in across the street, bringing old secrets of the cul-de-sac to light.
The eight-episode season launched on February 8th and earned a top 10 debut over four weeks on Peacock. Keke Palmer led the cast, which included Jack Whitehall, Julia Duffy, Paula Pell, Mark Proksch and Kapil Talwalkar. The series was created, written and executive produced by Celeste Hughey.
That isn’t the only renewal handed out today as ABC has ordered re-ups of two of its procedurals – “The Rookie” and “Will Trent”.
“The Rookie” has scored a ninth season order, the pick-up for the Nathan Fillion-led series coming three months into the show’s eighth season run and ahead of the season finale on May 4th.
Additionally, “Will Trent” has scored a fifth season order, the Ramón Rodríguez-led crime drama is similarly mostly through its current fourth season run with the finale airing on May 5th.
ABC previously handed out renewals for “911,” “911: Nashville,” “Abbott Elementary,” “Grey’s Anatomy” and “High Potential”. The fates of “Shifting Gears,” “Scrubs” and “R.J. Decker” are still unclear.
