The “Supergirl” film came and went with just a $125 million worldwide haul and mixed reviews, and now has unexpectedly found itself back in the spotlight.
Earlier today, the studio released a new featurette showing director Craig Gillespie and Jason Momoa discussing Lobo designs. Those designs appear to have been generated using AI.
It’s an odd move considering the character has been in comics for five decades with plenty of established artwork and has led to questions online as to whether AI was used to develop the character and potentially used across the film.
Things really took off, though, when the video was taken down and the clip spread everywhere, sparking more discussion about the film’s visual style, which was a major sticking point during the film’s release.
DCU Studios chief James Gunn has previously not been a fan of generative AI usage, saying: “I’ve always given my VFX artist-collaborators time to do their jobs properly, and the respect they deserve.”
“Supergirl” is now available digitally and arriving on 4K Blu-ray on September 8th.
