Hulu has reportedly decided not to move forward with its planned part revival/part sequel series to iconic 1990s show “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”.
The star of the 1990s “Buffy” series, actress Sarah Michelle Gellar, was slated to return to her Buffy Summers role which would be in a supporting capacity. Gellar was also set to executive produce.
Now, in a posting on Instagram, Gellar broke the news to fans that Hulu is no longer moving forward on the project after a pilot episode under the helm of “Hamnet” director Chloe Zhao was already shot.
Sources for Deadline call the pilot ‘not perfect’ and say Zhao may not have been the right fit. There was talk of reworking the pilot, but Hulu has now opted not to proceed with it.
The streamer is still said to be interested in the Buffy IP and “plans to regroup and mull a possible new incarnation of the beloved franchise”.
Nora and Lilla Zuckerman (“Poker Face”) penned the pilot’s script. The series was ordered to pilot a year ago with Ryan Kiera Armstrong to play the lead alongside Gellar.
