“Batman: Knightfall” Becomes A Multi-Part Film

Warner Bros. Animation

Warner Bros. Animation has announced that a multi-part animated film adaptation of the iconic “Batman: Knightfall” storyline is currently in production.

The first part will debut next year, though no specific date has been set yet. It’s not clear how many parts there will be, though the original story is generally seen as a three-parter (Knightfall, Knightquest, Knightsend).

The storyline was published between 1993-1994, the story takes place over approximately six months as Bruce Wayne suffers burnout and is systematically assaulted and has his back broken by a “super steroid”-enhanced genius named Bane.

Bruce is replaced as Batman by an apprentice named Jean-Paul Valley (a.k.a. Azrael), who becomes increasingly violent and unstable, tarnishing Batman’s reputation. Eventually, Bruce is healed through paranormal means and reclaims his role as Batman.

The film will be directed by Jeff Wamester and written by Jeremy Adams. Though elements of the story have been used in works, this will mark the first direct adaptation for the screen.0

The announcement was made during New York Comic-Con at the end of “The Art Knight: Batman in Animation” panel.
