Gilroy Not Working On “Andor” During Strike

Following his confirmation on Friday that scripts for the second season of “Andor” were all finished days before the writer’s strike commenced, series creator Tony Gilroy is now taking a further step back from the currently in-production second season of “Andor”.

Gilroy tells THR that along with not doing any further writing on the series, whilst the strike continues he will no longer perform any non-writing duties for the show which he created and runs.

The statement comes in the wake of Gilroy receiving criticism from a fellow WGA member about his potential non-writing duties during the strike, such as contributing to things like casting and music-related duties.

Gilroy has fired back at that criticism, saying he was not present on the show’s set and hasn’t been since the strike began on May 2nd:

“I discontinued all writing and writing-related work on Andor prior to midnight on May 1st. After being briefed on the Saturday showrunner meeting, I informed Chris Keyser at the WGA on Sunday morning that I would also be ceasing all non-writing producing functions.”

Keyser subsequently confirmed his conversation with Gilroy to the outlet. Lucasfilm has not commented on the news about the series which just won a Peabody Award for its first season this week.

The talk also comes in the wake of Disney sending letters to showrunners on Friday demanding that they continue their contractually obligated non-writing services amid the strike – a request the WGA has reportedly branded as “union-busting tactics”.
