FOX has cancelled its reimagining of the classic series “Fantasy Island” after two seasons. Sony Pictures Television produced the series.
Roselyn Sanchez stars as Elena Roarke, the grand niece of the original Mr. Roarke (thus maintaining continuity), who runs the island that can bring the guest’s dreams to life.
Co-stars included Kiara Barnes as the island’s associate co-host, and John Gabriel Rodriquez as the head of transportation.
Guest stars across the run have included Jason Priestly, Teri Hatcher, Melinda Clarke, Cheryl Hines, Rachael Harris, Brett Butler, Daphne Zuniga, Dave Annable, Bellamy Young, Laura Leighton, James Denton, and the late Leslie Jordan.
In a statement, FOX says they were “very pleased with Fantasy Island’s fun and escapist creative, which we had hoped would gain strong traction among viewers”. That would suggest it’s a viewership issue.
Liz Craft, Sarah Fain and Anne Clements were executive producers on the show, with the first two serving as showrunners.
FOX has skipped all pilots this year, instead giving straight-to-series orders for a number of shows, including live-action titles “Doc” and “Rescue: Hi-Surf” along with animated series “Krapopolis,” “Grimsburg,” and “Universal Basic Guys/The Hoagie Bros”.
