After some initial hesitancy, Netflix has now jumped on board “The Big Short” and “Anchorman” filmmaker Adam McKay’s next ensemble comedy feature “Average Height, Average Build”.
Robert Pattinson, Robert Downey Jr., Amy Adams, Forest Whitaker and Danielle Deadwyler are set to star in the story, which will follow a serial killer (Pattinson) who uses political lobbyists to change laws in order to make it easier for him to kill.
As with McKay and Netflix’s previous collaboration on “Don’t Look Up,” this will tackle sociopolitical issues – in this case, crime and corruption. It will also boast a large ensemble cast, so expect some more names to be announced soon.
McKay wrote the script and will direct the film, which he previously said would appeal to both sides of the political spectrum. The project has found it challenging to find a home, with multiple studios passing on the project due to budgetary issues and the film’s dark subject matter.
McKay is planning to film the project in late summer in Boston with cinematographer Todd Banhazl also onboard.
“Don’t Look Up” was a hit for Netflix, taking a Best Picture nomination and becoming the service’s second most popular film of all time globally, with nearly 360 million hours viewed in the first 28 days after its release.
